Generating Revenue with your Site

How can I make money with my site?
(Profit from your Site!)

If your host allows you to have commercial banners and advertisements on your site (most domain hosts do), there are a variety of companies that will pay you for placing banners or buttons or sometimes even search boxes on your site. Generally, there are four ways to generate revenue:

  • Get Paid -every- time you show an ad: usually referred to as CPM (or cost per thousand shows), this was a once common form of advertising on the Internet. For smaller sites, it seems to have died off, although a few sites still pay it.
  • Get Paid -every- click on an ad: usually referred to as a CPC (cost per click), this is probably one of the most common forms of advertising on the Internet. Usually payout is from 1 cent per click to 25 cents per click. This means you will get money any time someone clicks an ad on your site.
  • Get Paid -every- signup for a service: usually called a CPA, this is a form of payment for when someone does something, such as fills out a form or orders a service.
  • Get paid Commission: Payment when the someone buys something through your link.
And, of course, an obvious way to make money...
  • Selling a Product or Service Online
...a new opportunity, your best bet (just tell your friends, too):

Tips for Selling a Product or Service Online

Over the past few months I have received numerous positive comments about my tutorial by people coming from Internet Marketing Center. I wanted to find out a little bit more about these people who kept recommending my site to thousands of people, so I checked out their site.

If you already own an Internet business, or plan to start one, you -need- to get a copy of Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet in your hands as soon as possible.

This is the best Internet business course I've ever read--I went to college for this kind of stuff, and this course content blows away any book or professor I've had in class.

I've been running an Internet business for eight years, and I made changes to my site as I read this course, and earned an extra $200 the first week alone, before I even got to the end of the course!

If you read this course, you'll most likely save hundreds or thousands of dollars by not making common mistakes, and you'll learn proven marketing concepts to increase the number of sales you make every month.

This is one of the easiest courses I've ever read... it explains concepts and ideas simply, without using complicated business terms. If you can understand this tutorial, you can understand this course.

The course has a money back guarantee so you have nothing to lose. I honestly believe they should be using this course as a marketing guide in colleges and universities around the world.

What kind of traffic (number of visits) do I have to have to be profitable?

It really varies. If your site only gets one hundred visitors per month, you may make less than a dollar. Then again, you could make a few bucks. It all depends on circumstances. If your site gets thousands of visitors per month, you'll have the opportunity to make quite a bit of money!

Where can I make money with ads?

Here are a few companies that I use or have used in the past that have a pretty good record:
Google AdSense is an excellent program: you get paid when people click targeted ads on your site. This is one of the most popular ad programs on the Internet, and should be your first stop:
**Highly Recommended**

  • Commission Junction : The most comprehensive and most promising affiliate network, in my opinion. You can join any of their thousands of affiliate programs, and the money you earn gets combined into a single monthly check -or- direct-deposited into your checking account! **Highly Recommended**

  • Websponsors : I've been using websponsors for over a year. You get to pick the ads you want on your site (mostly paid for sign-ups or free trials) and they combine your earnings into a check every month. Recommended
Webmasters Earn Cash from your site

  • LinkShare is an e-commerce business solution for over 3.5 million online relationships. Become an affiliate of the Network for FREE and earn revenue by linking to over 500 premier online merchants. *New*

  • BeFree : When you become an affiliate with BeFree you are given access to over 200 of the web's best programs where you can earn some decent commissions.

pure cash for selling t-shirts? mugs? mousepads? books?

I've come across a relatively new company recently that allows you to design and sell t-shirts, mugs, mousepads, and more through their site at no cost to you. You design the images, upload them and customize them until you're satisfied, and then place a link on your site to your personal "store" where they can be purchased online. You don't have to take the orders or ship the products personally, it is all done through this company. (They just send you checks for your sales!) You set the price above the cost, and the difference is pure profit! (E.g. say the mousepad base price is $10.99. If you sell it for $11.99, you'll make $1 per mousepad, at $12.99, you'll make $2 per mousepad, etc...)

I've set up my own store to test out their services. I ordered a t-shirt and a mousepad and I'm fairly pleased. You can check out my store at cafepress.com/davesitecom/ for an example (or if you really want to buy a shirt or mousepad, feel free!).

Getting started with ads

First you need to check if your host allows banners (most domain hosts do, most free hosts do not). Next, you check out the options (there are many others, I've just included a select few I've found reliable.) Bookmark this page to use as a reference. When you sign up for one of the banner programs, they will give you HTML code to place on your page(s). A little warning: Most companies won't pay you until you've earned at least $10 or $20. This may take you from a day to a few months. But once you have the HTML code up, you don't have to do anything else (except update your site once in a while) to earn money.
